William Bailey Travel Reviews A Natural Wonder

Posted on 02.26.14

William Bailey Travel Reviews A Natural WonderOne of the most well known and iconic waterfalls in the world, the Iguazu Falls are waterfalls that are part of the Iguazu River.  They border both Brazil and Argentina and form a natural boundary between the two countries. The river primarily flows through Brazil.  They are considered one of the natural wonders of the world. The lore of the falls says that a god planned to marry a beautiful woman who instead fled with her mortal lover in a canoe on the river.  In his anger the god sliced the river, creating the waterfalls and condemning the two lovers to an eternal fall.

There are small islands located along the river that divides the river into more falls. Depending on the season and runoff there could be anywhere from 150 to 300 additional falls, but of course on a much smaller scale than the Iguazu Falls. The additional falls vary between 197 – 269 feet high, still an amazing sight to behold. The Iguazu Falls can be reached by two main towns, one in Brazil, one in Argentina. Puerto Iguazu is in Argentina and Foz do Iguacu in Brazil. The falls are shared by national parks in both countries and were named UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1984 and 1987. The national park in Brazil is aimed at providing pristine environments for future generations.  The campaign to start preserving the park started at Iguazu Falls in 1976.

On the Brazilian side of the park there is a walkway out to the falls along the canyon.  You can also reach the lower base of Devil’s Throat here.  There are helicopter rides available over the falls from the Brazilian side as well. Argentina has prohibited helicopter rides due to the environmental risk to the flora and fauna.  There is an entrance fee to the park in either country, and due watch because they are rumored to price gouge tourists. There are free buses that will take you to various locations in the Brazilian national park. The Argentinians use the Rainforest Ecological Train.  There are also inflatable boats on the Argentina side for the more adventurous to explore the river.

An exotic and stunning destination for travel, if you enjoy adventures, this is a must see. William Bailey travel tips and reviews are here to help you travel.
